Two Year Five schoolchildren from Ysgol Bryn Coch in Mold, Flintshire, took over Iceland’s multi-million-pound development kitchen as part of the Children’s Rights Takeover 2019 campaign. The campaign was developed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), the treaty that grants all children a set of human rights.
Taking over the role usually held by Head of Product Development, David Lennox, ten-year-olds Richie Jones and Cameron Adshead, donned Iceland Kitchen aprons to host product sign-off panels, conduct food quality checks, and taste new additions to Iceland’s chilled and frozen ranges.
The Children’s Rights Takeover was designed to help children and young people gain insight and experience of real-life decision-making positions in companies and organisations, as well as giving organisations a fresh perspective on their work.
“I really enjoyed the afternoon at Iceland Foods,” said Cameron. “I cannot believe that I actually got to go to Iceland Food’s Head Office, where all the important stuff happens. I really enjoyed the fact that I got to taste all the food and see which ones tasted the best. I’m glad that I was able to help with important jobs”.
