Iceland is strengthening its range of seafood certified by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC). The ASC is a globally recognised standard for responsible aquaculture. It ensures transparency and traceability across the supply chain and promotes farming that respects fish welfare, the environment, and the people on and around the farm. Learn more at asc-aqua.org.
We currently offer 6 Iceland own label ASC certified farmed seafood products. These include:
- crispy fish fillet strips
- salt and vinegar fish fillet strips
- chip shop curry fish fillet strips
- breaded fish fillet strips
- cooked and peeled king prawns
- 4 large basa fillets
We were also the first UK supermarket to launch ASC and MSC co-labelled products. These are:
- seafood casserole
- clams in Mediterranean style tomato and garlic sauce
By 2026, we will increase our ASC certified own label range to over 25 products. This will include all Iceland own label whole prawn products, all carrying the ASC logo.
Lief Hendrikz, Market Development Manager UK and Ireland at ASC said: ”The ASC welcomes the commitment from Iceland to have their own label whole prawns to be ASC certified and labelled by the end of 2026. It demonstrates Iceland’s continued focus on growing their affordable and responsibly sourced seafood options to their customers, and contribute to improvements on the water, to livelihoods, and local communities.”
When shopping at Iceland, look for the ASC label to know your fish and seafood were farmed responsibly.
